Everytime I close Komodo IDE with the top-right red “X”, next-time I start it I get a popup saying that Komodo was nut closed cleanly.
It does not happen if I do “File” and “Exit”.
I also started from scratch (emptied fhe config in C:\Users…\AppData\Local\ActiveState\KomodoIDE\11.1), and I still have this issue.
Also, many times, I have to launch Komodo exe twice, because the first time it is just not starting.
When you reset your profile, could you instead rename C:\Users…\AppData\Local\ActiveState. Komodo will import any old Komodo Edit profiles that might be laying around too.
Can you open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and next time this happens, check if Komodo is still running from the previous shutdown? Code intel can take a little while to shutdown which causes the Komodo process to hang around longer than you think. If it’s still running then you can’t start Komodo. You just need to wait until it closes properly.

I guess the only thing to do is to start from scratch and resetting my profile.
Next time it hangs the log file in your profile and share it here and we’ll see if there is anything going on in there.
Ok. But the fact that I have the message only when closing with the red “x” is interesting.
Using “File - Exit” (alt-f4), I have no issue. I think the red “X” should do the same as alt-f4.
Alt-f4 quits Komodo and closes all windows (even additional editor windows). We won’t be doing this suggestion.
FWIW, I see this same behavior. When I close Komodo IDE using File > Exit, no problem. But if I use the red “X” in the upper right, then the next day, when I start Komodo, I see the pop-up saying that Komodo was not closed cleanly. I should’ve reported it as a bug, but I see it so infrequently, since out of habit I do Ctrl+Q (File > Exit).
I just tried it a few times and i’m not seeing the reported issue. Komodo starts up fine.
@trogne or @mjross, if this happens it osmetimes means that the “Komodo didn’t shut down properly” dialog got burried under other windows. I believe there is a bug open for this. You should be able to expand the Komodo process in Task Manager, right click and there will be an option to “move to front” or something. I don’t remember what the menu options is and I can’t reproduce the issue.
For the issue where Komodo doesn’t close properly when you use the red X, could one of you provide logs from when you shutdown? Do not restart after shutting down, that will truncate the logs and lose any data we are looking for (if it’s there).
I reproduced it again just now, and saved the logs and a screenshot, in sequence…

Argh. I separated the log files’ blocks of text with horizontal lines (of hyphens, “—”), but they were apparently stripped out by the forum software. 
@mjross i went through and wrapped the log file output in back ticks, `, and used ## to turn the file names into headers. Your ----- seperators were there but weren’t very visible.
Unfortunately there isn’t anything interesting in those logs.
Can one of you file a bug for this so we can track it?

If i wasn’t editing READMEs and forum posts so much I’d forget too! You should try doing some of your writing (you’re a writer, right?) using a markdown file and Komodo’d markdown live preview. It’s pretty awesome. Our old product manager at ActiveState used it all the time to write blogs and what not.

That’s an interesting suggestion, but I’m afraid it wouldn’t fit into my normal workflow: I dictate all of my writing using Dragon NaturallySpeaking (partly for health reasons), then put it into Word for spell checking, and then into Komodo IDE to run my text formatting macro, at which point it is pure HTML and ready for uploading to my website. If I were more involved in any sort of technical product support, I would definitely take the time to master Markdown, as I’ve heard such good things about it.
