Komodo Edit, version 9.3.2, build 16460 Slow at startup windows10

Hi

I guess that the title says it all.

I did check whether that problem was addressed–and solved–no luck.

I do not use any network drives. I checked the environment variables, and they are all on my C: drive.

I have pretty much never used an editor that was so slow at startup.

Just after launching it I opened a job list, at there it was, waiting to start or whatever.

I like Komodo edit, I would hate to switch to another editor, please help!

Very truly yours,

Jean-Paul Bardou

You should try Komodo Edit 10, there were some performance changes :slight_smile:

There are a few of things you can try:

  1. Look at Help > Troubleshooting > View Log File. Something obvious may show up.
  2. Help > Troubleshooting > Restart without Addons. If startup is fast, you have an add-on causing problems.
  3. Back up you existing profile folder (/Users/username/AppData/Local/ActiveState/KomodoEdit/), remove it, and start up KomodoEdit again. If it’s a fast startup, then something else in your profile was causing the slowdown.

How “slow” are we talking exactly?

Well, it is definitely telling me something, though I have no clue as to what I should do with it.

Here is a dump, if somebody can point out something I can do:

In the mean time, I try the other options you name.

It takes several minutes to come up.

As mentioned, I have never experienced something so slow.

Even heavy programs such as 3dMax come up quicker, relatively…

Option 2

Restarting it without addons, although I checked that I do NOT have any addons in the first place, seems to do the trick.

Does it point to the possibility that it is because I always start komodo, manually, upon starting windows10?

Option 3

In ActiveState, I have two folders, with the following trees:

Komodo Edit
–>ActiveState Komodo Edit 9 nightly
------>lib
--------->mozilla
------------>updates
--------------->0

and

KomodoEdit
–>9.0 thereunder autosave, codeintel, project-templates, samples, schemes, templates, tools, and XRE.
–>9.3, with the same subdirectories.

I have created some macros, which I’d hate to loose.

Now, is that enough info to get an idea…

You used Help > Troubleshooting > Restart Without Addons?

Yes, that’s what he said and what I instructed him to do.

Yes I did indeed…

Very strange. Could you verify that the XRE/extensions folder is empty? It is located inside your profile folder.

both XRE folders have many subfolders:

cache2, crashes, icons, lessCache, mindumps, startupCache, and userstyleCache…

Please check XRE/extensions, not just XRE :slight_smile:

I did give you a list of XRE’s subfolders, and the one you mention is not among them…

Ok, that’s very strange. Literally the only thing “Restart without Addons” does is move this folder aside. In your case it would effectively do nothing. Are you certain this is the only thing you did?

I still have a problem with starting komodo edit, and I have narrowed it down a little bit:

It is only the first time I open it after windows10 has been started, and then it takes about 45 seconds before it can be used.

When I close it and open it again, it takes only 4-6 seconds to be operational, which is very good.

Any ideas about what can cause this to happen?

So you can’t reproduce the issue beyond the very first startup?

It’s normal that the first startup takes a bit longer, although 45 seconds is a lot. Frankly even 4-6 seconds is more than it ought to be, but at the end of the day it’s dependant on your system.

What are your system specs?

I do understand, and accept, that startup takes its time, and again, no other program takes that long to start, even a lot heavier apps such as video processing and the like.

If I start a task manager before I launch komodo, I can see it right away, and it takes a long time before it finally opens.

As far as the system specs go, is that enough:

Toshiba Satellite Intel Core i3-2310M CPU at 2.10Ghz 2.10Ghz
4GbRAM
Windows10 home

That does seem a bit on the slower side. Are you running a lot of apps when you start Komodo?

I know that the machine is a few years old.

No, komodo is recently the absolut first app I load, (and by the way, I sometimes experience the key lag people have mentioned in other threads.)
