Error "Could not load scripts from activestate.yaml"

Hello,
My Komodo project notification area regularly reports the message from statetool
“Could not load scripts from activestate.yaml”
Followed by internal message
“Repeat notifications truncated, please check your Notifications Panel”
How can I resolve the load script error?

Do you have an activestate.yaml in your project? If yes, are you able to run that script using the State Tool?

Thanks again CareyH, after browsing the online documentation I stumbled into the State Tool Creating your First Project and command line entries to run, namely “state activate” . I ran “state activate” from a separate stand-alone PowerShell session however Komodo still reports the same errors.
If I run “state activate” from the Komodo run command tool the output indicates reports that state is not a recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Attempting to set the Preferences for State to the path does not seem to work for me, either.

The notification errors appear right after Komodo launches. After Komodo has started I can successfully activate the yaml file. It seems that the Komodo startup does not succeed in activation and I don’t know why.

These sentences seem to contradict each other. Can you elaborate on “After Komodo has started I can successfully activate the yaml file”? What are the exact steps you’re performing here?

A couple things here:

The State Tool doesn’t support Powershell (That’s not clear from the docs. I’m reporting the issue to support). You must use the State Tool in CMD. That will hopefully change in the near future but I can’t say when.
Unless you start Komodo from the shell you ran state activate in, it will have no effect on Komodo. Any environment changes that the State Tool makes are isolated to the shell it’s running in. Komodo will inherit those changes if started from that shell.

If this was for running state activate in Run Command then this makes sense. Run Command looks at the system PATH Komodo started with. To use the preference specified paths (eg. for Python) you use the Interpolation Strings, unfortunately, there isn’t one for the State Tool. BUT setting the preference you set here should help with the code running in the background that’s failing.

OK so lots of explaining with little help. Sorry about that. Can you reproduce the issue and then grab your logs and share them? Help menu > Troubleshooting > View Log File.

Hello CareyH,

Thanks so much. I am currently testing the Perl script and will update this thread shortly. Regarding the seeming contradiction: after the initial failures reported by Komodo launch, I can successfully activate the yaml file via the sequence Go to Anything/Shell/State/Activate .A screenshot of the notification tab shows the order of occurrences.

Thanks for clarifying and thanks for the logs. Those logs leave out all the good stuff though. Let’s try and get more from them NOTE: these next instructions cause sensitive info to print to your logs so be careful what you copy and paste to me.

Open the JS Console (View menu > Tabs & Sidebars > Console) and run the following, ko.prefs.setBoolean("state.verbose.unsafe", true)
Then reproduce the issue and see if you can isolate one of those commands that’s failing to run.

FYI, from that screenshot it looks like the activate actually failed despite it being a blue “info” notification. Returning 1 usually means the process failed. And the logs seem to agree.

It might also be helpful for you to share the output of you running state activate from a CMD window in that projects folder.

Before we do more, can you make sure you’ve done the steps from this thread? It’s cluttering up your logs quite a lot and it MIGHT, though not likely, could be causing issues with the state tool.

Also:

I don’t see any Debug lines in those new logs. Are you certain your ran the log.setLevel line in the JS console THEN reproduced the issue?
I don’t see the output from the other JS lines I asked to be run.

Here’s a screenshot from the Console settings. After entering the commands, I exit Komodo and restart in order to recreate the startup failure and capture the log. Are the Console settings persistent across Komodo sessions? Or ought I instead run the “state activate” command after entering the Console commands?
