Can't sign in to Platform account on first Komodo start

I just downloaded the latest Komodo release 12.0.1 and installed it. When I open Komodo, it requires me to sign in to my ActiveState Platform account, which I created yesterday and confirmed.

When I enter my credentials it takes about 3 minutes and then an error message appears saying

“Login failed, it appears you are offline”

The computer is definitely not offline. I can go to any website I want.

I know, that there are duplicates of this issue here, but “careyh” asked me to open a new thread, because he thinks, the issue is different from those that looked identical but were already resolved.

Can you reproduce the issue then share your logs? You can find your log file with the info in this post:

I recognized one thing: The first error message in the log says, that it’s not able to determine the version of python3 (by testing the executable …\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\python3.exe). This .exe file has 0kB - it’s an empty file. Maybe there’s something wrong with the installation procedure of Komodo 12? I have a python3 version (3.7 to be exact) installed somewhere else on my PC. Maybe this somehow conflicts with Komodo 12?

On the other hand: I have the same setup on my Laptop, which is in the same network right near my LabPC (which shows the problem). On the Laptop however, I don’t have this issue. It could be, that on the Laptop I first installed Komodo and then the other python3, but I’m not sure - it’s more than a year ago…

That Python is error is coming from Microsoft trying to get everyone to use their distribution of Python:

That error in your logs in benign so you can ignore it.

The more applicable errors in the logs all point to issues connecting to the internet so though you’re able to open website, there appears to be something unique about your network setup that’s breaking things when Komodo tries to reach the internet. Maybe a proxy or something? Can you shed some light on that?

Login error, NOTE that CORS is enabled for platform.activestate.com:

Hi Carey,

thanks for the reply. I checked the proxy setup on both of my computers. It is identical. We are using an automatic configuration script here, which I don’t know, what it does.
Although the proxy setup is identical, one computer had no problems, but the other one has.

I must admit, that I don’t remember, if I had to log in on first start of Komodo 12 on the computer, where it works. This was months ago. Maybe it has the same issue now? How can I check this?

Is there a specific port required to be open for Platform login?

Regarding CORS: What is this? How can I enable it?

@gpetrowitsch, is it an option to disable the proxy to start Komodo, login, then turn your proxy back on? That would likely be the easiest solution.

There is no special port involved in hitting the login api. It’s the standard https port, 443 which Komodo is using. You would be getting a different error if you couldn’t connect to the server.

You don’t do anything to enable CORS. We do it, and it is enabled. My guess is that your proxy is changing something in the request regarding where the “origin” of the request is coming from (ie. changing it to the proxy server rather than Komodo).

The only real options here will be to either take your computer somewhere where you can connect to the internet without the proxy then log in. You don’t need to log in again once you’re done it the first time. Or turn off the proxy briefly.

@careyh; the automatic proxy configuration script can’t be disabled, but I can enter a different proxy (manual proxy setup). If I enter our proxy server there, nothing changes.
I can’t take the computer outside - it’s a tower PC and it’s owned by the company.
I’m really desperate and don’t know, what to do.

@careyh; Thanks - I was hoping, that something like this should be possible. I will try it out, once I’m in the office again (mostly working in the home-office due to Corona…).

If I understand it correctly, the computer with the issue must be disconnected from the internet, when the files from the profile are copied from the USB stick and Komodo is started afterwards; only after this first start the internet connection may be re-established, right?

I don’t think this is necessary. You can be connected to the internet, but Komodo but be stopped. When Komodo starts again it will look for the saved files you imported, when it finds them it will skip the login dialog.
